Therapeutic Parenting

Therapeutic parenting is a unique approach to raising children, specifically designed for those who have experienced early life trauma. It involves being consistent, empathic, insightful, and connected in a way that differs from traditional parenting.

The goal is to build trusting relationships with the child to provide a safe and predictable environment. Caregivers play a crucial role in creating a secure and healing environment that supports the child’s emotional well-being, social development, and overall recovery.

Therapeutic parenting also focuses on promoting attachment and developmental trauma reparenting. Additionally, psychoeducation sessions are conducted with parents to teach them how to parent their children in a therapeutically minded way. Therapeutic parenting foundations utilise the P.A.C.E. model, which stands for Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy, as well as DDP (Dyadic Developmental Parenting).

Therapeutic Life story work ( up to 20 sessions )

Therapeutic Life Story Work Developed by Richard Rose, the TLSW model is a creative arts direct work approach. This helps children and young people explore and make sense of their past, giving them a voice and a safe space to express emotions.

It supports them in understanding how past experiences connect to their current thoughts, feelings, and behavior's. When approached with empathy and an awareness of unmet needs.

It can positively influence their emotional well-being and ability to regulate emotions. Children separated from birth families often lack clarity about their history, leading to confusion, self-blame, and challenging behavior's.

TLSW offers a safe, supportive space to make sense of these experiences, including why they are in care and how they came to live with their current family.

Children Who May Benefit:

• Children who have been adopted or are in foster care

• Children who are curious or confused about their past

• Those who have experienced grief or loss

More about me plus 1- (up to 12 sessions )

To use the 'More About Me' approach to support children and young people at the start of their recovery journey. With the help of their parenting family, they will engage in direct work focused on their current life, exploring identity, thoughts, feelings, and behavior's. We will briefly cover their birth family and reasons for separation. The outcome will be a book reflecting this work, limited to themes manageable for the child. This will avoid opening any avenues of exploration that cannot be undertaken in the allotted 12 sessions. The process celebrates the young person, builds confidence, and can stand alone or serve as the first stage of a full TLSW intervention. It also helps identify unresolved trauma that may need future support.-Please contact me for a consultation

All therapeutic interventions are bespoke and tailored to each individual's needs.
